Algonquin Park Day Trip

Algonquin Park is a favourite amongst Canadians and visitors for enjoying nature. The park is over 7000 kilometers and has over 1500 inland lakes. There are many designated hiking trails within the park, and over 2000 canoe routes. In 1893, the park was established as a Provincial Park, and it was named after the Indigenous people who inhabited the region, the Algonquin. A self-guided day trip is a great choice if you don’t have time for a longer excursion.

How To Get There

If you do not have access to a car, an easy and affordable option to get to the park is by taking the Parkbus. This is non-stop bus that departs from four Toronto locations to four popular drop-off points in the park. Visit the Parkbus website to learn more.

Canoe Trip

A short canoe trip is ideal for families or groups of friends, it lets you explore your choice of lakes or rivers in the park at your own pace. Grab a canoe, paddles, life jackets, and some snacks and head out! If you don’t have your own canoe or kayak, you can easily rent one in the park, there is also an option to rent a paddle board or have a guided tour.

Hiking

Within Algonquin Park there are 14 designated trails. They range from easy to difficult and vary in length, meaning there is something for everyone. Depending on your pace, the shorter trails can be accomplished in 30 minutes to 1 hour. With the longer ones taking an hour and longer. If you enjoy hiking, there are many trails to choose from.

Swimming

There are many swimming options within Algonquin. Every campground and picnic area has lake access for swimming, as well as many public beaches. The best time to swim in these lakes is the summertime when the water is warm.

How to Get Your Algonquin Park Pass

All who use Algonquin Park need to have a valid permit. Day use permits allow for day visits to the park, including access to trails, beaches, and museums. The cost is $18.00 CAD.

Whether you are an adventure seeker or not so much, there is no shortage of things to do and explore in Algonquin park. Don’t miss the chance to visit this world-class destination and enjoy all that is has to offer.
