Miss Universe and Toronto Raptors’ Star Visit ILAC

This past week was Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week in Canada.

Due to the importance of the event, ILAC hosted the reigning Miss Universe from Venezuela Gabriela Isler, Toronto Raptors Star Greivis Vasquez and Miss Universe Canada 2014 Chanel Beckenlehner. All three celebrities gave inspirational speeches to over 150 students in support of the ILAC’s Anti-bullying campaign and the Future Aces Foundation!

“This week is very important, not only here in Canada but around the world. I think it will be a viral message, because nowadays we have social media and we can spread the message around.

Sometimes people may criticize you because you have a different accent, your skin is darker or lighter. I say: “If you don’t like the colour of my hair, if you don’t like the colour of my skin, if you don’t like my accent. You know what? I don’t care! I am happy with myself.”
The main idea is to respect each other. Don’t allow others to disrespect you. If you see any kind of situation when someone is being disrespectful to a friend or family, be a mature one, try to be a good guy.”

“I think the most important thing about the Bullying Awareness Week is maintaining your integrity and speaking up when you need to stand up for yourself.

I encourage you to pursue your unique attributes. Go out! Be successful! Don’t let anyone tear your spirit down!”

Toronto Raptors Player Greivis Vasquez:

Ten years ago I couldn’t speak any English at all. I have never thought that I could be here, where I am right now. I am hanging out with Miss Universe and she is from Venezuela!
Dreams actually come true, guys! You should believe in yourself. If you want something, you go out there and get it, no matter what!”
