Over the weekend, the International Language Academy of Canada (ILAC) was recognized as a Leading Star at the prestigious StudyTravel Star Awards in London, UK. The annual red carpet event celebrates service excellence in international education as voted by colleagues and partners in the industry.
The Leading Star Award is a new category for 2018 and is only open to organizations that have won the ST Star English Language School Award five years in a row and named a ST Lifetime Super Star.
“We want to thank everybody for making the industry so much fun to work in,” said Jonathan Kolber, ILAC Co-Founder. “It was a really big surprise because of the diversity of the competitors.”
This year, the ST Star Awards featured 25 categories, including study travel agencies, language providers, vocational colleges, secondary schools and service providers. The glamourous event was held on the second evening of ST Alphe UK at the Grosvenor House a the AJW Marriott Hotel on Park Lane, with over 1,200 major industry representatives in attendance.
“It was deeply humbling and gratifying and a way for us to re-engage with our partners,” said fellow ILAC Co-Founder, Ilan Cohen. “It gives us great confidence and an energy boost and makes us even more motivated to keep pushing forward with innovations and ideas.”
In the spring of 2018, ILAC announced it would be going zero-tech in the classroom and “unplugging to connect”. Since then, ILAC has received overwhelming support from parents, teachers, agents, other schools and most importantly, students themselves. By putting away their screens, ILAC students have shown to be more focused and relaxed during class, allowing them to fully immerse themselves in the experience of learning English.
The ST Star Awards have honoured top class performance across the study travel industry for the past 14 years and are considered one the most important awards for educators, agents and service providers working in the study travel industry to be associated with. Those who win the award five times, such as ILAC, are introduced into the StudyTravel Star Awards Hall of Fame as a Super Star.
In addition to the ST Star Awards, ILAC has received over 25 awards for excellence in English training and dedication to customer service. The most recent include Japan Best School Award by Ryugaku Journal, The Consumer Choice Award and the Lead5050 Enlighted Employer and Mentor of the Year Award for ILAC’s role in supporting women’s leadership in the international education industry.
