Places to Visit in Vancouver: 5 Things You Cannot Miss

The city of Vancouver is a lively seaport on British Columbia’s west coast and is one of the most populous and culturally diverse cities in Canada. Vancouver is known for its natural beauty with its rainforests, mild climate, over 200 parks, and sandy beaches on the Pacific Ocean. There are many places to visit all over the city and there is something for everyone.

Stanley Park

Stanley Park is a 1000+ acre park right next to the downtown core of the city of Vancouver. Created in 1888, it is the oldest park in Vancouver and the second oldest in Canada. It can be explored with a guided tour or on your own. Walking or biking the seawall is regularly voted as one of the best things to do in Vancouver, in doing so you will pass beaches and even spot sea life! There are also many walking routes through the park where there are rose gardens, lakes and monuments. Don’t forget to visit the Vancouver aquarium located in the park.

Granville Island

Once an old industrial district, Granville Island has been transformed into a buzzing community filled with many unique shops, restaurants, and entertainment. There are breweries, a distillery, a sake house, and an indoor market filled with food, fresh produce, and handcrafted products. Arrive at the island via either a bus from downtown or the AquaBus that runs every few minutes. There is always something happening on the island, you can’t miss it!

Capilano Suspension Bridge

A 15-minute drive from downtown Vancouver, the Capilano Suspension Bridge is a Vancouver landmark and British Columbia’s most popular attraction. This famous swinging bridge is 460 ft long and 230 ft above the Capilano river. Over the years, the 27-acre park has been developed to include other activities visitors can enjoy such as the Cliffwalk, Treetops Adventure, a Story Centre, and guided tours. This is a must see for everyone, especially adventure and nature lovers!

Sea to Sky Gondola

Located on Highway 99, a scenic 45-minute drive from downtown Vancouver, the sea to sky gondola offers breathtaking views and activities for all interests and ages. A 10-minute gondola ride takes you 885 meters above sea level with views of Howe Sound and coastal mountains. Once at the top, there are many activities available such as walking and hiking trails, rock climbing, and the Sky Pilot Suspension Bridge. The Sea to Sky Gondola is one of the best ways to fully experience the beauty of Vancouver.

VanDusen Botanical Garden

Located in the center of Vancouver, the VanDusen Botanical Garden spanning 55 acres is home to a large variety of tree species and both native and exotic plants. Explore the gardens by following a self-guided tour with each seasonal tour introducing you to the species that are present at the time. You can’t forget to take your time and really take in the garden’s beauty or try and escape the Elizabethan Hedge Maze, the most popular attraction within the Garden.

These are just five of the exciting things you can do in Vancouver, there is so much more depending on your interests and age. Vancouver is one amazing city to be in! With a buzzing city life, beautiful nature, and perfect location on the coast, there is nothing else quite like it in Canada.
