Three Commandments to Live this St. Patrick’s Day in Vancouver

On March 17th, the world comes together to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, an Irish festivity characterized by the green colour and lively events. Here are 3 commandments to honour the Patron of Ireland in Vancouver this year.

Check out our list of vocabulary at the end of the article to learn new words.

Irish Music Live/ June 18, Thursday @Failte

1. The Irish culture you have to live

Since 2004, the CelticFest Vancouver Society organizes an annual festival in the heart of the city to celebrate the Celtic Nations. This event held from March 10th to 18th is a perfect occasion to learn about Irish culture. Plenty of activities are on the program, including international and Canadian Celtic performers, musicians, artists, and dancers. Delhi 2 Dublin, one of Canada’s most exciting bands, will be playing at the event.

Not good with rhythms and prefer games? That’s okay! Friday night is an Irish sports night with dinner, drinks, and fun. Get ready for nine days of music, dance, theatre, spectacle, and more!

For further information, visit the CelticFest Vancouver website.

Killarney, Irish Breakfast

2. Irish food you have to eat

Try one of the best Irish spots in Vancouver, Johnnie Fox’s Irish Snug, at 1033 Granville Street. The atmosphere is welcoming: “There are no strangers here, only friends who have never met” is one of their slogans.

Breakfast is served all day, so if you are a food lover, try their Full Irish Breakfast – two eggs, two slices of Irish bacon, two bangers, baked beans, grilled tomatoes, black and white pudding, homemade hash browns, and toast for 13.95$. Mouthwatering, isn’t it?

For more menu options visit Johnnie Fox’s Irish Snug’s website.

3. The night you have to enjoy with ILAC (19+)

Dress up in your finest green attire, can be crazy or wild, bring out your inner Irish, and get ready to take over Republic Nightclub!

Join the ILAC St. Patrick’ Day party on March 17th. It will be starting at 6:00 PM at Republic Nightclub on Granville Street. It’s free for you, ILAC students! So what are you waiting for? Just pick up your tickets from Club ESL at the Activities desks. It includes two slices of pizza, a free Green beer, and many props and accessories to turn you into an Irish for the night.

Vocabulary of the Day:

Commandment: an important rule that tells people how to behave.

Celtic: a branch of the Indo-European family of languages that includes Gaelic, Welsh, and Breton, still spoken in parts of Scotland, Ireland, Wales, and Brittany.

Banger: a type of sausage.

Mouthwatering: arousing the appetite, tantalizingly delicious.
