5 Winter Essentials to Enjoy the Season

Canada is famous for its winters. Despite what you may have heard, cold and snow can be enjoyable with the right gear! Take a look at our list of the essential accessories you will need for braving your first Canadian winter.

1- A Good Outfit

Winter won’t be enjoyable if your feet are soaking wet each time you step outside and if you’re sweating once inside. That’s why it is essential to buy the right pair of winter boots, coat, gloves, scarf, and pants.

Check out some of these brands that sell affordable and high quality winter clothing: Eddie Bauer, The North Face, Columbia, Sport Chek, and more!

Our advice: in Canada, it is common to have heating indoors. Choose a layered approach, so you can always adjust your temperature, whether inside or outside. Start with a base, such as long underwear, and then add a few mid-layers (sweater, vest, scarf) topped with a waterproof or wind-proof jacket.

2- Coffee Cup

Believe it or not, Tim Hortons cups become a fashionable item carried by Canadians during wintertime. It helps to keep your body warm, all the way from home to school. Buying a hot beverage and spending money every morning is not your cup of tea? – We totally understand. So why not investing in your own reusable cups? You can buy these almost everywhere, Shoppers Drugmart, Canadian Tire, and even Tim Hortons and Starbucks!

Our advice: Some reusable cups are at discounted prices at Kitchen Stuff, Winners or Amazon.

3- Heating Pads

Despite all the layers of clothing you wear, you’re still feeling sensitive to the cold? No worries, we got you covered! Heating pads are what you need. These little packets are popular for being amazing at warming parts of the body.

Where to find them: Canadian Tire, Conair, Walmart

Our advice: don’t stop at just heating pads! Take a look at all kinds of heated accessories, such as blankets, hand warmers, and jackets!

4- Touchscreen Gloves

The touchscreen gloves provide excellent warmth and hand protection. It allows you to touch, tap, swipe and pinch an interactive screen with the glove still on the hand. The dilemma of taking your gloves to use your phone has been solved! Posting your pictures on Instagram with #iloveilac won’t be a winter challenge anymore!

Where to find them: Agloves polar sport, Timberland, Isotoner – and you may even get ILAC ones by participating in our winter activities!

Our advice: wear gloves made with Polypropylene or Thinsulate. They repel water, sweat or other moisture and keep you hands dry and warm.

5- Vitamin D Supplement

Vitamin D is vital for good overall health and strong bones. It’s also an important factor in making sure your muscles, heart, lungs and brain work well and that you can fight infections.

Your body produces its own vitamin D from sunlight. However, during the winter, days are shorter and the amount of sunlight is less, a supplement is the solution!

Our advice: buy your Vitamin D supplement at a licensed drugstore.

Following these tips, you will have nothing to worry about this winter – other than having an amazing time and enjoying the snow!
