ILAC IELTS experiences record breaking bookings due to Canada’s new immigration program

Since the Canadian government announced its exciting new pathway to permanent residence for temporary workers and international graduates last week, there has been a surge in demand for IELTS testing in Canada. The ILAC IELTS testing centre has experienced record breaking bookings at its locations across Canada because English proficiency is one of the main requirements for the new immigration program. “We are very happy and proud that Canada is recognizing and welcoming international students and newcomers,” says Jonathan Kolber, ILAC CEO. “I believe this is a record for an IELTS test centre in Canada and I wouldn’t be surprised if ILAC has broken the world record for sales in the last few days.” The ILAC IELTS website crashed within the first three hours the immigration announcement was made. The centre is now meeting the demand but the system is slower than usual due to the volume of people trying to book their test. To be eligible under the international graduate stream, applicants must obtain a minimum of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 in each testing category. To be eligible under one of the essential worker streams, applicants must obtain a minimum of CLB 4 in each testing category. Applicants must also have at least one year of Canadian work experience in a health-care profession or another pre-approved essential occupation and international graduates must have completed an eligible Canadian post-secondary program within the last 4 years. The new pathway program will grant permanent status to temporary workers and international graduates who are already in Canada and who possess the skills and experience to fight the pandemic and build the economy of tomorrow. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will begin accepting applications on May 6, 2021.  The program will remain open until November 5, 2021, or until it has reached its limit on a “first come, first served” basis. “There is huge rush of people looking for tests so beware of IELTS scams on the internet,” says Loretta Revoczi, Director of the ILAC IELTS Test Centre. “Make sure you are booking your test through an official IELTS testing centre like ILAC.” For more information, see ILAC Insider: Understanding Canada’s new pathway to permanent residence for international students.
