MEET ILAC

We have picked the Director of University Pathways for the monthly interview. Ally Ahu Eroltu was born in Gallipoli, Turkey. She moved to Toronto to join her older brother 10 years ago. She has been at ILAC for almost a year and a half, looking after students who go on to study at universities and colleges in Canada.

ILAC Times had a nice chat with Ahu and is more than happy to share it with you. Enjoy it!


ABOUT YOU

ILAC Times: What is your zodiac sign?
Ahu: Gemini.

ILAC Times: Where were you born?
Ahu: Gallipoli, Turkey.

ILAC Times: Do you have brothers or sisters?
Ahu: One older brother and one older sister.

ILAC Times: What do you miss the most about home?
Ahu: The food (mediterranean fish).

ILAC Times: What’s the best place to go in your hometown?
Ahu: Bodrum… a small Mediterranean town.

ILAC Times: Are you married?
Ahu: No, but I am in a committed relationship.

ILAC Times: Any kids?
Ahu: No.




CANADA

ILAC Times: How long have you been in Canada?
Ahu: Ten years.

ILAC Times: What do you like the most about Canada?
Ahu: The natural beauty, the privacy and diversity… relatively speaking, I find people more respectful and living in harmony.

ILAC Times: What cities have you been to in Canada?
Ahu: Toronto and many cities in Ontario, Quebec City, Montreal, Ottawa and Vancouver.

ILAC Times: Any favorite city?
Ahu: Quebec City!




TORONTO

ILAC Times: Why did you choose Toronto to live?
Ahu: I came to Canada because of my brother; he had been living in Canada for a quite while already when I came here.

ILAC Times: What do you like
the most about Toronto?
Ahu: The culture and entertainment.

ILAC Times: Where to go?
Ahu: The Beaches during summer time and Distillery District at any time of the year.

ILAC Times: Don’t go to?
Ahu: Jane and Finch.



CAREER

ILAC Times: What is/are your major(s)?
Ahu: Bachelour in International Relations (had plans to be a diplomat), certificates in Project Management and Digital Media Design.

ILAC Times: Where did you work before ILAC?
Ahu: CIM - Consumer Impact Marketing.

ILAC Times: How long have you been working at ILAC?
Ahu: Almost a year and a half.

ILAC Times: What is your position?
Ahu: Director of Pathways.

ILAC Times: What are the challenges?
Ahu: Lots to do but not a lot of time available.

ILAC Times: What are the rewards?
Ahu: The pathway students are here to pursue their dreams in studying at higher institutions. It’s the most rewarding when I contributed to make it possible for them and to see their smiling faces.

ILAC Times: A Hobby?
Ahu: Biking.

ILAC Times: A Movie/Show?
Ahu: “Before the Rain”. A European movie produced in the early 90’s about a love story that takes place during war.

ILAC Times: A Song/Singer or Band?
Ahu: The Doors.

ILAC Times: An idol?
Ahu: People who were brave enough to challenge the status quo and changed the world in their own terms (i.e. Nelson Mandela, Dalai Lama).

ILAC Times: Your passion?
Ahu: To help people and make a difference… even if with the smallest contribution.
