MEET ILAC

Tim Roy was born in Toronto, Ontario, but spent most of his childhood in Montreal, Quebec. He has been working at ILAC since 2002 and today, he looks after issues related to the students’ learning experience.

The Director of Studies role ranges from managing the teaching team, organizing curriculum and class schedules, to be looking after students’ development through their courses.

ILAC Times spent some time with Tim and is glad to share some interesting stuff with you… hope you enjoy it!

ILAC Times: What is your zodiac sign?
Tim: Sagittarius.

ILAC Times: Where were you born?
Tim: Toronto.

ILAC Times: Do you have brothers or sisters?
Tim: 4 brothers. I’m the 2nd of 5 boys.

ILAC Times: What’s the best place to go in in the city?
Tim: Toronto Island.

ILAC Times: Are you married?
Tim:No, single.


CANADA

ILAC Times: What do you like the most about Canada?
Tim: The culture… Canadian values. Mostly, the modesty of the people living here.

ILAC Times: Where have you been in Canada?
Tim:
Several places, but I haven’t yet been to the East Coast.

ILAC Times: Any favorite city?
Tim: Montreal, where I grew up.

ILAC Times: Have you been outside of Canada? Where?
Tim: I’ve visited Europe, Peru, India, and Thailand, and taught in Japan, the Czech Republic and the UAE.

ILAC Times: Why did you choose Toronto to live?
Tim: Job opportunities and the fact
many family members are here.

ILAC Times: What do you like
the most about Toronto?
Tim: I like the lifestyle. I think we’re fortunate to enjoy a quality of life.

ILAC Times: Where to go?
Tim: Any subway station you’ve
never been before – get out
and explore.

ILAC Times: Don’t go to?
Tim: There’s nowhere you shouldn’t go. Adventure waits around every corner.

ILAC Times: What is/are your major(s)?
Tim: Bachelor of Commerce. I also have a Trinity TESOL Diploma.

ILAC Times: Where did you work before ILAC?
Tim: For an Internet Company.

ILAC Times: How long have you been working at ILAC?
Tim: Since 2002… almost 5 years.

Tim: Director of Studies.

What are the challenges?
Tim: Balancing the needs of teachers, students and the executive directors.

ILAC Times: What are the rewards?
Tim: Finding solutions for problems, satisfying answers to questions, making things work and being able to provide help.
